WHO IS BAUTZ?

BAUTZ is my last name.

It comes from Germany, from a place called Bautzen. It’s been carried for generations, long before me. At some point in the 1600s, a man named Hans Bautz left that place and came to Norway. He worked in the silver mines in Kongsberg. When the mines were struggling, he discovered a new vein. They named it “Gottes Hülfe in der Noth” — God’s help in time of need. It wasn’t symbolic. It was literal relief. The mines were struggling, and this find revived the operation and kept them alive.

BAUTZ wasn’t built to tell that story. But I carry the same name, and that comes with weight.

BAUTZ started quietly. I was making clothes for myself. One-off pieces. Things I wanted to wear that I couldn’t find anywhere else. Most of it was never seen by anyone.

At some point, it stopped feeling like a hobby.

I left my job as an electrician and put everything into building this. Not because it was safe, but because it was the only direction that made sense.

What I saw around me didn’t interest me. Brands cutting corners, chasing margins, pushing out pieces that don’t last. Clothes designed to be replaced.

BAUTZ moves differently.

I don’t believe in turning people into advertisements. No oversized logos. No noise for the sake of attention. Everything is intentional. If something is there, it has a reason.

The focus is on the product. Materials that feel right. Construction that holds up. Pieces that improve with wear instead of falling apart after a season.

I work with natural fabrics and skilled manufacturers because the details matter. Not just the visible ones, but the ones you only notice over time.

BAUTZ isn’t built on trends.

It’s built to last.
